Each stage in my life can be defined by my relationship with cooking. My family tree is filled with great cooks, and some of my most precious memories are of the hours I spent as a young girl in my Abuela’s (grandmother) kitchen watching her cook, learning her movements and adopting her love and great appreciation for her native Mexican cuisine and the recipes that have been passed down through the generations.
In a more recent chapter of my life, I had the amazing opportunity to help my brother open a Mexican restaurant in Texas. He merged my Abuela’s recipes with modern elements of Tex-Mex cuisine — and the result is an amazing menu that just tastes like home.
When I think of home-cooked food, there’s just nothing like my mother’s Puerco con Calabacita or pork with zucchini squash. This fresh dish is so simple to pull together and is absolutely bursting with flavor. I invite you to try it with your family or even better yet, let me make it for you.
